In Vienna’s second district the residential building Donaumarina is being erected, close to the nearby underground station of the same name. As wind speeds along the Danube river can be higher than elsewhere, it is especially important that high wind comfort on the free spaces of the project is achieved. A street cafe, the playground of a kindergarten and other lounge areas were planned in such a way that inhabitants and visitors will enjoy spending time outdoors. Weatherpark was involved in the project from the very beginning. Following the compilation of micro climatic guidelines and advisory services for the jury during the competition, a diagnosis of wind comfort conditions was carried out by means of computer simulations. In doing so, the building was brought into accordance with local wind conditions from the start.
