Weatherpark and the City of Vienna / Municipal Dept 28 presented results of the wind comfort study of public space on the building site of Vienna’s new Central Railway Station.
On January 29th, 2013, Weatherpark presented the wind comfort study of public space on the compound of Vienna’s new Central Railway Station together with the Municipal Department 28 of the City of Vienna. Invitees – from the City of Vienna, architects and designers and developers of the buildings – were very interested in the influence of wind on the usability of open spaces. The height, shape and alignment of each building influences the air currents on the compound. From a certain velocity, passers-by find the short-term resp. long-term stay around the buildings unpleasant. The aim of the City of Vienna was therefore to avoid high wind speed caused by the erection of new buildings in the area. Due to the early assignment of Weatherpark and the wind comfort study some critical spots have already been identified and mitigated. Passers-by and travellers will feel comfortable at Vienna’s Central Railway Station. As the area is not yet fully planned and further buildings will be developed, wind comfort will remain an issue for this compound.
